To me, these still images act as a 'sketch' for a future performance. As a lot of my work begins, the idea started as a problem: my lavender seedlings were not receiving enough sun on my windowsill but were too weak to exist outside and face the elements. I thought of many possible solutions, but the one that stuck with me involved my own body and discomfort. I would cover my hands in foil and act as a reflector by standing behind the seedlings and moving as the sun moved. To be successful as an action, this performance would have to take place all peak hours of daylight every day until the seedlings were strong enough to live outside. In reality, it would not actually solve anything. I am interested in this intersection where an action can fail, but a performance or piece of art can be successful.
